CalHEERS Wins 2025 Red Hat Innovation Award

At Red Hat Summit 2025, Covered California’s CalHEERS platform was honored with a Red Hat Innovation Award for its ambitious modernization effort. CalHEERS supports millions of Californians seeking affordable healthcare. To meet growing demand and streamline operations during peak periods, the team migrated from a monolithic, on-premise system to a cloud-native microservices architecture on Red Hat OpenShift. This transformation reduced application spin-up time from 15 minutes to 15 seconds, processed 170 million transactions in 2025 alone, and improved agility in response to policy changes. With 1.97 million enrollments and plans to adopt AI-driven user support, CalHEERS continues to lead in digital innovation for public services. Read the full announcement here.
