Fabric Vision is an awesome set of tools for managing your SAN. I’ve found that most customers are not utilizing it as much as they should. At minimum, MAPS (Monitoring and Alerting Policy Suite) should be enabled so that you are aware of what is being found in your SAN that needs attention. We typically spend our time fighting fires rather than clearing brush to prevent fires.
My suggestion… review the 3 part VODcast series created by Principal Systems Engineer, Wayne Tull from Brocade to get an understanding of the technology (that you probably already have if you bought directors), enable MAPS using the quick start guide posted on my blog, and then work on getting to know the SAN Resiliency Guide. If you really want to get serious, take the SAN Resiliency class and book some time with your local Systems Engineer for some hands-on. Everything listed is FREE so get-er-done!
