What’s Happening @ Red Hat – October 2021

By | October 18, 2021

Hello fellow Red Hat enthusiasts. Where did time go? June turned into October in a minute and I’ve missed newsletter updates for the past 4 months. The last 4 months have meant my older daughter got married and my younger daughter is back to college, summer vacations are completed and I’m ready for cooler temperatures.  I’m hoping everyone is happy and healthy.

AnsibleFest 2021
Did You Miss it? – So Did I!

AnsibleFest 2021 turned out super awesome, but things happened and I wasn’t able to make it to all 88 sessions. Yes! There are 88 sessions available and they are ready for you to watch on-demand. I’ve created a list with links for you to search and pick the ones that interest you. Follow this link to the list: AnsibleFest 2021 Session Links and Titles – On Demand

Ansible for Network
“By 2023, 60% of data center networking configuration activities will be automated…”

Source: Gartner Market Guide for Network Automation and Orchestration Tools, September 12, 2020.

In my time at Red Hat, I’ve found that Network automation is a beehive of activity that could be tamed by automation. Not only for configuration, but for configuration creep, security and more.

Network automation and orchestration solutions are often leveraged by NetOps, SecOps and DevOps teams for the following types of use cases:

  • Configuration control as well as deployment and maintenance of network devices
  • Incident management , including fault isolation, classification, workflow and remediation
  • Staff efficiency , by reducing time spent on repetitive tasks, and reducing human error
  • Vulnerability remediation by shortening time required to consistently implement the remediation across hundreds or thousands of instances of the affected technology
  • Accurate , real-time provisioning of public cloud service and other services
  • Edge management to ensure connectivity and manage security risks

Red Hat OpenShift version 4.9
Single Node OpenShift – WHAT?

Comprising both the control and worker nodes in a single server, single node OpenShift provides operational independence for edge sites with limited physical space, power/cooling, or have intermittent connectivity back to central data centers.

Single node OpenShift offers organizations another architectural option alongside OpenShift’s 3-node cluster support released in version 4.5 and remote worker node support released in version 4.6, providing a flexible approach to meet individual edge use case needs.”

Additional key 4.9 features include:

  • Azure Stack Hub expanding of our on-premises and cloud footprints across different infrastructures
  • Support MetalLB for bare metal environments that do not natively come with a load balancer
