Happy New Year and welcome to 2022. I hope you had a great holiday end of year break and some time to relax from the sometimes constant video meetings. Thank you all for a great first year at Red Hat and I look forward to this next year getting to know everyone better. On with the updates… Cheers!
Hyperscaler Marketplace in 2022
Extend Red Hat to Cloud Services and Edge
Many Red Hat solutions, including RHEL, RHEL for SAP, RHEL with SQL Server, OpenShift, Azure Red Hat OpenShift (ARO), and Red Hat OpenShift on AWS (ROSA) are available through the Microsoft Azure, AWS, and GCP marketplaces and consoles, providing an easy and convenient way for you to purchase Red Hat solutions. In 2022, you can expect to see a broader portfolio of Red Hat solutions available through the hyperscaler marketplaces.
Example: Ansible Automation Platform is now available as a private preview in the Microsoft Azure marketplace. Get more info.
Migration Toolkit for Virtualization – (MTV)
Run VM’s that are not ready for containers on OpenShift
MTV is fully open-source and is based on the Forklift, a Konveyor Community project, which we invite you to join, participate and promote. MTV is included with OpenShift at no additional cost, and is easily installed as an Operator.
MTV 2.2 includes the following new features:
- Validation service (GA): VMs are checked before migration for incompatibilities or configurations that might require manual intervention.
- Custom validation rules (technology preview): Create your own rules to check the suitability of your VMs for migration.
- Must-Gather from the UI: Gather and download debugging data from the web console to solve migration issues. Filter the data to focus on specific items for troubleshooting.
- Clone migration plans: Refine your test migration plans and then copy them to create migration plans for production.
- Web console enhancements: Enhanced usability and functionality, including displaying aggregated VM counts and VM power state, reflect VMware host status in Inventory and Host CR.
If you want to see the usage of MTV / Forklift in the context of a full application modernization and migration, check out this E2E Konveyor Demo.

Red Hat OpenShift Database Access (RHODA)
Yes, I immediately thought of the 70’s TV show RHODA
Standing up databases and providing and managing connections to them is still a complex task, even in a cloud environment. RHODA is a capability in managed OpenShift Kubernetes environments enabling administrators to set up connections to DBaaS offerings from different providers and have such connections “on the shelf” within the OpenShift environment for applications to easily incorporate.

Log4j
CVE’s to review and action as needed
CVE-2021-4104: A flaw was found in the Java logging library Apache Log4j in version 1.x. JMSAppender in Log4j 1.x is vulnerable to deserialization of untrusted data. This allows a remote attacker to execute code on the server if the deployed application is configured to use JMSAppender and to the attacker’s JMS Broker. Link to Red Hat Portal
NOTE: this flaw ONLY affects applications which are specifically configured to use JMSAppender, which is not the default, or when the attacker has write access to the Log4j configuration for adding JMSAppender to the attacker’s JMS Broker.
CVE-2021-44228: A flaw was found in the Apache Log4j logging library in versions from 2.0.0 and before 2.15.0. A remote attacker who can control log messages or log message parameters, can execute arbitrary code on the server via JNDI LDAP endpoint. Link to Red Hat Portal
The following products are NOT affected by this flaw and have been explicitly listed here for the benefit of our customers.
- Red Hat Cost Management
- Red Hat Advanced Cluster Management for Kubernetes
- Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform (Engine and Tower)
- Red Hat Certificate System
- Red Hat Directory Server
- Red Hat Identity Management
